Another seafood that I tried for the first time last month.

They are usually sold at the bullfights in Terceira, cooked a bit in sea water, and the seller brings a bottle with that “juice” and pours over the cracas. Then he gives you a nail and you use it to extract the edible part from each tip. Not the most cheap food: 1€ for each “tip”, this little dish was 10€.

In terms of English names I think this is called barnacles, but is different from the goose barnacles (that we call “percebes” in Portugal), although the flavour is very similar. Looks weird and it needs to be catched with a bit of the rock itself, but is amazing and I could eat the whole bucket honestly 😂

1st pic is before eating, 2nd is after, 3rd is the whole bucket and you can also see the bottle with the “juice”.

Never had this kind of barnacle, but goose barnacles in Portugal still hold the title of one of my very favorite seafood dishes ever. And I just ate them straight out of a pile at a seafood market. Absolutely divine!
