    Food can touch.

    The dollop of jam off to the side seems ancillary – as if you needed something to fill out the other third of the plate because the plate is too big but it’s all you have.

    For me, in order to make the items more cohesive and bring them closer I would arrange vertically. Maybe a line of the jam instead of a dollop. Cake and ice cream registered along it.
